Right School: The path to your child’s growth!

19 . 12 . 2018

It’s that time of the year when everyone is in a festive spirit. However, it’s a different story altogether if you are a parent and your child is just about to start school. If you are in this particular phase at the moment and looking for the right school for your child, we are so glad that you are reading this.

The Best School?
We are sure you would have done a research on similar terms while looking for the different options of schools that your child can enrol in. We all want to give our children the best curriculum, best infrastructure and the best possible learning environment. But, how does one decide? What’s best for one child may not serve the purpose for another. As practitioners in the field of education, we thought it would serve well the needs of every parent if we could compile a checklist of what to look for in a school and how to decide what’s best for your child. These points are based on what has worked for us so far and the feedback that we keep receiving from the parents of our wards.

Choose the right syllabus!
Evaluate a school based on the board/syllabus that it follows. There are multiple options available like IB, CBSE and IGCSE. CBSE is more suited if you would like your child to appear for national entrance exams like IIT-JEE and NEET while IB is more suited for those looking for more international opportunities. This is just a surface-level analysis, we suggest doing a thorough research on this before your make a choice.

Right Teacher-Student Ratio
While every teacher wants to teach to the best of their abilities and help every child, an overcrowded classroom may leave him/her helpless. This may lead to your child being left out of the whole learning process as the teacher struggles to give individual attention to every student. At pre-primary level the ratio should not exceed 10:1 i.e. one teacher for every ten students. The same may go up to 25:1 in the senior secondary.

Abacus & Mathematics: the building block of success!
Abacus helps boosts your child’s calculation skills. It also increases the endurance for handling stress and pressure. Abacus classes are very good for developing logical reasoning and improving problem-solving abilities. Your child will have more concentration and be more observant as he/she grows up. A young mind that learns the basics of mathematics is bound to do better in academics. That’s why, as a parent you should always look out for schools where your child’s pre-primary teachers discuss the fundamentals of mathematics like greater than, lesser than, bigger than and so on.

Right atmosphere for learning
While the school infrastructure is definitely important, it may not always be enough for your child to learn and grow. Make sure that your ward is joining a school where teachers love what they do. Being surrounded by loving and caring people is essential to your child having a healthy learning environment. This is something that we can vouch for based on our practical experience as educators.

Substance before brand!
The way the education system works in our country, it is very easy to start believing that private schools are better. Then comes the big names of the education world, who are known to the top schools. Try to look beyond the name/brand and see what type of learning methodology the school uses to help your child learn in the best possible way.

We hope these pointers will help you make the right choice and gain some peace of mind so that you can enjoy the festive season. We wish you and your family the best of luck for bright future. Until next time, take care!
